The short version: this website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking. The only personal data I collect is your e-mail address – and only if you sign up for my newsletter. I use it to send you the newsletter and nothing else. I never sell it or share it for marketing. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Below is the full version, as required by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, “GDPR”) and the Slovak Act No. 18/2018 Coll. on the Protection of Personal Data.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The controller of your personal data is:
Mgr. Marián Chrvala
E-mail: ask@marianchrvala.com
Phone: +421 903 124 201
(“I”, “me”). I have not appointed a data protection officer, as the law does not require one for this kind of processing. For any question about your data, simply write to the e-mail above.
2. Newsletter “Join The Curious Few”
What data: your e-mail address. When you submit the form, the form service also records technical data needed to deliver the form and to block spam – typically the date and time of the sign-up, your IP address and basic browser information.
Why: to send you my newsletter – roughly one e-mail every two weeks with one idea worth keeping – and to be able to show that you gave your consent.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give by ticking the box in the sign-up form. Giving your e-mail is voluntary. Without it, I simply can’t send you the newsletter.
Withdrawing consent: you can withdraw your consent at any time, free of charge – by using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter or by e-mailing ask@marianchrvala.com. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before it.
How long: I keep your e-mail address for as long as you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, I delete it without undue delay, at the latest within 30 days. I may keep a record of when you consented and unsubscribed for up to 3 years to be able to prove that I acted lawfully (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – legitimate interest).
3. Who processes the data for me
I use a small number of trusted service providers (“processors”). They process data only on my behalf and according to my instructions:
- Formspree, Inc. (USA) – receives the newsletter sign-up form and forwards your e-mail address to me. Formspree stores the submission in its systems.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) – hosts this website (Cloudflare Pages). To deliver the pages and protect the site against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address in its server logs (legal basis: my legitimate interest in running a secure website, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- WebSupport s.r.o. (Slovakia, EU) – my e-mail provider. The sign-up notifications from Formspree arrive in my mailbox hosted by WebSupport.
If I start using a dedicated newsletter service to send the e-mails, I will add it to this list.
I do not sell your personal data and I do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
4. Transfers outside the EU
Formspree and Cloudflare are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers take place only with appropriate safeguards under Art. 44–49 GDPR – in particular the European Commission’s adequacy decision for companies certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, as set out in the providers’ data processing agreements. You can request more information about these safeguards by e-mail.
5. Cookies, analytics and embedded content
This website does not use any cookies, analytics or tracking tools. Fonts and all other files are served from this website itself, so visiting a page does not send your data to Google or other third parties.
YouTube videos: some articles contain YouTube videos. They are not loaded until you click “Play”. Only then does your browser connect to YouTube (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC) via the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain, and YouTube receives data such as your IP address. If you don’t click, no connection is made. For details, see Google’s privacy policy.
Links to other websites (for example LinkedIn) are ordinary links. Once you leave this website, the privacy policy of the other site applies.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access your personal data and get a copy of it (Art. 15),
- rectification of incorrect data (Art. 16),
- erasure (“right to be forgotten”) (Art. 17),
- restriction of processing (Art. 18),
- data portability (Art. 20),
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21),
- withdraw your consent at any time (Art. 7(3)).
To use any of these rights, just e-mail ask@marianchrvala.com. I will reply without undue delay, at the latest within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Slovakia, this is the Office for Personal Data Protection of the Slovak Republic (Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov Slovenskej republiky), Hraničná 12, 820 07 Bratislava 27, dataprotection.gov.sk. You can also contact the authority in the EU country where you live or work.
7. Other information
I do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling. The newsletter is not intended for children under 16.
I may update this privacy policy when something changes – for example when I start using a new service. The current version is always available on this page, with the date of the last update at the top.
